David Byrne started making music in the 1970s as the lead singer of Talking Heads. He has remained an icon in the word of independent arts, and in part, has continued to contribute by posting a monthly playlist of other people’s music.
I spent some time this past weekend with my friend Andy. He mentioned a time when he was living in England, away from family and friends, and a friend of his posted a monthly playlist that helped him feel connected. Andy said that there were some nights when he would count the sleeps until the next upload would be available for listening.
While listening to music can appear like a passive activity, there are many people who listen with great care and attention. Putting together a playlist, though it may seem somewhat simple, can be a great way to archive music, pursue a creative endeavor, and connect with other people.
